RV Park / RV Campground – Butterfield RV Resort

Some RV parks feel like a place to park your rig. Others feel like a place to belong. Butterfield RV & Observatory in Benson, Arizona, firmly lands in the latter category—and from the moment you arrive, it’s clear this is a park built on pride, community and an impressive level of care.
Tucked conveniently in the heart of town but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Interstate 10, Butterfield RV & Observatory offers 147 asphalt and gravel sites. Twenty-four sites are designated for short-term stays, while the remaining sites cater to monthly and longer-term guests, giving the park a stable, neighborhood-style atmosphere that’s hard to find. This is the kind of place where neighbors know each other by name, newcomers are welcomed with genuine smiles, and it doesn’t take long before you feel like part of the group.
The park is immaculate—meticulously maintained from end to end. Staff members joke that their rocks are “fluffed” daily, and honestly, it shows. Landscaping is pristine, common areas are spotless, and the long-term sites are refreshingly free of the clutter and excess you often see in full-time RV parks. Every site feels cared for, and that consistent attention to detail elevates the entire experience.
Butterfield’s amenities are plentiful and thoughtfully maintained. Guests can enjoy a swimming pool and spa, pickleball courts, multiple dog parks and a clubhouse that’s always buzzing with activity. Inside, you’ll find a pool table, video games, a library and a dedicated puzzle table—often surrounded by folks chatting and laughing as pieces come together. There’s also a well-equipped woodworking shop, which has become a favorite gathering spot for many residents.
Activities are a big part of life here, especially during the busy season from October through April. The park hosts water aerobics, yoga, bingo (and yes—it’s real bingo), live bands and a monthly park breakfast. Birthday and anniversary celebrations are held each month, complete with cake and ice cream, and holidays are marked with festive dinners that bring the community together. Butterfield is also a fantastic destination for rallies, with a banquet hall that’s well-suited for group gatherings and events.
One of the park’s most unique features is its on-site observatory. Weather permitting, guests can enjoy nightly astronomy programs lasting roughly 1.5 to 2.5 hours. These guided viewings are included at no extra cost for park guests and offer a fascinating look at the night sky that you won’t find at your average RV park. It’s a standout amenity that complements the peaceful desert setting.
Rates are another pleasant surprise. Winter monthly rates are incredibly affordable at $585 per month, plus electric (based on 2025 rates—be sure to check the park’s website or call for current pricing). Considering the amenities, upkeep and sense of community, the value here is exceptional.
One thing to note: A nearby train line runs close to the park. You’ll hear the horn and feel the rumble as it passes—a reminder of the area’s railroad history and something most guests quickly grow accustomed to. It’s simply part of the local character.
Butterfield RV & Observatory isn’t just a well-maintained park with great amenities—it’s a true community. Friendly, welcoming and thoughtfully run, it’s the kind of place that turns a seasonal stay into a tradition and a short visit into a longer one than planned.
