RV Park / RV Campground – Elizabethtown/Hershey KOA Journey
Written by Caly Behymer
Tucked into a quiet residential area of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, lies a hidden treasure. Behind the gates and sprawling across 50 acres of a former golf course is the beautiful Elizabethtown/Hershey KOA Holiday. KOAs have always been synonymous with quality, sparkling clean RV parks and excellent customer service. However, this KOA manages to take this RV park to an even higher level of standards and excellence. The Elizabethtown/Hershey KOA (EHKOA) is family-owned and operated, with each family member bringing their extensive experience and expertise to the table. The thoughtfulness in the layout of the park’s 163 campsites and 22 cabins, the unique amenities and the jaw-dropping landscape make this RV park a true escape. Once you’ve set up your RV in the park, you and your family may find it hard to leave. With amenities like CoCo’s Cafe, which serves up breakfast and lunch seasonally, three playgrounds, a large rec hall, mini golf, gem mining, a fishing pond, sand volleyball, a giant outdoor chessboard, two pools and peddle-cart rentals, you may ask yourself, “Why ever leave the park?” This family-owned, family-friendly park doesn’t stop there by ensuring your stay is funfilled and memorable. Guests can expect crafts for all ages, food truck offerings (peak season weekends), kid’s foam parties, scavenger hunts, visits from local wineries, fishing derbies and even ceramic painting events. Their store is wellstocked with great clothing options, home/RV décor, pool supplies, snacks, drinks and the famous candy tower.
While the extensive list of amenities beckons you to stay, EHKOA’s location begs you to get out and explore the surrounding area. Park staff are area experts and can help you with suggestions on local attractions and activities to make your experience personalized to you and your family’s interests. Outdoor enthusiasts will love the nearby rails-to-trails and horse, bike and hiking trails to Mt. Gretna, a historic lakeside town full of charm, beaches, shopping and restaurants. Nearby are also several “on points” to the Appalachian Trail, and for water lovers, canoeing, kayaking and fishing opportunities abound along the Susquehanna River. EHKOA’s central location allows for day trips to nearby Lancaster County (Amish country), local famed farmer’s markets, Cherry Crest Adventure Farm, Gettysburg, Washington DC, Baltimore and even New York City (because of the proximity to an Amtrak station). With so much to experience and explore in the area, the EHKOA is the perfect location for repeat stays, promising a new and different experience every time.
EHKOA is open seasonally, mid-April through the end of October, with the busiest part of their season in July and August, so be sure to plan ahead to ensure your spot in this gem of an RV park. Sitting on the sprawling back porch behind the recreation hall, with a slight breeze rustling through the trees, you overlook some of the beautiful landscaping gracing much of the park. The peace and quiet of this spot envelops you, and you close your eyes for a moment and breathe in all that you experienced during your stay, a lifetime of memories. The owners’ words ring true: “We value them,” which is evident in every aspect of Elizabethtown/Hershey KOA.
