RV Park / RV Campground – Las Cruces KOA Journey

Every once in a while, you come across an RV park where the owners have taken the term “above and beyond” into the stratosphere—where every glance reveals thoughtful touches that make it clear the owners spent years RVing themselves, collecting ideas about what travelers truly want. Then they brought those ideas to life in a way that makes you pause and quietly applaud how remarkably well it all came together.
Perched along a ridgeline with sweeping views of the Organ Mountains in Las Cruces, New Mexico, sits the newly renovated Las Cruces KOA Journey. Under new ownership since summer 2020, the campground has been completely transformed into a beautiful oasis above the valley floor. From the moment you pull into the drive, you’re greeted by manicured landscaping, new signage and hand-laid stone retaining walls. The main office and store have been entirely refreshed, with the addition of a community room and kitchen that create a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere. Each morning, guests can enjoy complimentary coffee and pastries in the cozy community room, which features a fireplace and large gathering table. The store is stocked with essentials as well as local goodies like fresh chips and jars of salsa from La Posta de Mesilla and nuts from area farms.
Every part of the park has seen improvements. The campground now offers 93 upgraded RV sites, refreshed camping cabins and enhanced tent sites. Site options range from basic pull-throughs to view sites, patio sites, view patio sites, KOA patio sites and the deluxe KOA patio site, which features an expansive 3,000square-foot lot. KOA patio sites and the deluxe version include a 250-square-foot stamped concrete patio, upgraded stone fire pit, premium outdoor furniture, additional seating and a gas grill. Dog lovers will appreciate the large PawPen site with its spacious fenced-in area and impressive views of the mountains.
The amenities throughout the park reflect the same attention to detail. The playground is loaded with fun, kid-friendly equipment. The dog park has been expanded and now includes shade structures and a grassy area. After your pooch enjoys time running in the dog park, head over to the dog wash station behind the office. The area is designed to make bathing your pup a breeze with a large walk-in bathing tub and even includes dryers. The swimming pool, once enclosed by a tall, uninviting wall, has been opened up with modern seating and a more welcoming vibe. Bathrooms have been remodeled with elegant tile work that makes you wonder if you’ve stepped into a spa rather than a campground bathhouse. Harsh sodium lights that used to bathe the park in yellow glare were replaced with motion-activated white lights, so guests can enjoy peaceful stargazing without disruption. Even the park’s electrical capacity has been upgraded to handle heavy AC use on hot days without fear of outages.
The owners of the Las Cruces KOA Journey have created something truly exceptional. What was once a scenic overnight stop is now a resort-style destination where you’ll want to linger, spend your days by the pool and your evenings beside a crackling fire under a canopy of stars.
