RV Park / RV Campground – Blythe Island Regional Park Campground – Brunswick, Georgia

Written by Caly Behymer

Every once in a while, you come across a campground that is a blissful escape. A campground surrounded by nature and mature trees and hidden away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A campground with amenities more akin to outdoor adventures, beckoning you to an experience that takes you back to your true camping roots. Blythe Island Regional Park is one such place. You won’t find an Olympic-sized swimming pool, an onsite restaurant, or glamping yurts at this park. But you will find 1,100 acres of Georgian forest filled with every imaginable outdoor delight.

Located in the heart of the Golden Triangle of the Golden Isles off exit 36 on I-95 in Georgia, the park is just a mere five-minute drive off the exit, making accessing the surrounding area a breeze. Within minutes you can enjoy beaches, museums, shopping, and the area’s historical sites. Entering through the gates (gates close promptly at designated times, but the park is accessible by campers after hours) and driving the mile-long trek into the park, you instantly are plunged into nature. While the campground may not have the amenities that so many campers have come to expect at a campground, it offers a plethora of other courtesies that encourage you to enjoy the great outdoors. The park is nestled between a large lake and the South Brunswick River, making this location a boater’s and fisherman’s dream come true.

The park has a boat ramp, a fishing pier, a power boat hoist, and bait on the river. Overnight docking is also available. Those taking advantage of access to the South Brunswick River can enjoy easy access to fresh and saltwater fishing. Didn’t bring your boat but want to enjoy some water fun? No worries. The park provides boat, kayak, and paddleboard rentals, and the onsite lake is home to fishing opportunities and a beach with a swimming area. Restrooms are located nearby for convenience.

Each campsite is located under a canopy of large oak trees draped in Spanish moss, adding a touch of Southern charm to your camping experience. While the trees offer refreshing shade from the Georgia sun, they make satellite TV virtually impossible to use. However, cable TV is available at all sites, and there are plenty of channels should you decide to spend a day inside. The park offers 97 full hook-up campsites that provide 30 and 50 amp, and back-in and pull-through. Sites are large, spread out, spacious, and surrounded by mature trees and plants, providing each location with an intimate feel and experience. Some pull-through sites are incredibly long (you could easily fit two 45′ campers end to end and still have plenty of space left) and are perfect for rigs of any length.

If you aren’t one for fishing but still like to be outdoors, bike and walking trails surround the campground. A stroll through the campground feels like a walk on a nature trail and provides plenty of exercise for those who love staying active. The park also offers several picnic pavilions that are available and convenient if you want to hold a camping family reunion.

You may notice friendly bunny rabbits hopping around the park and campground. They are resident bunnies of the park and are well taken care of by staff and visitors. Be sure to stop by the cages near the front office to see any new babies hanging around. They love to nibble on fresh fruits and veggies and will gladly take any you may offer. These domesticated bunnies are not native to this area. A few were dropped off in the park one day, and staff started to take care of them. Then bunnies do what bunnies do. Soon, a few bunnies turned into a lot, and the park staff stepped up to provide a wonderful home for these critters. These fuzzy residents are sure to put a smile on your face as you see them hopping about the park. Some more daring bunnies will jump right up to you in hopes of a delicious treat.

Blythe Island Regional Park Campground has quickly become our campground of choice in the Brunswick area. It has also become an overall favorite of ours. This is where you reconnect with loved ones, enjoy all that nature has to offer, slow down your pace of life a bit, and not worry about a campground activity agenda. As you sit next to your campfire in the evening, reminiscing about your day with loved ones, you realize that you don’t miss the doggie wash, golf cart rentals, and activity center as much as you thought. Blythe Island is rooted in nature—and proud of it. Click here for more information on Blythe Island Regional Park.
