RV Park / RV Campground – Cape Hatteras / Outer Banks KOA Resort

Kampgrounds of America, or KOA, have become synonymous with quality, consistency, excellent customer service and some of the best campgrounds in some of the nation’s best locations. Without fail, KOA has delivered what campers and RVers are looking for, time and time again, with their line of campgrounds. Whether you choose a KOA Journey, KOA Holiday or KOA Resort, you won’t be disappointed with all that the KOA family of campgrounds has to offer their “campers”. One of their campgrounds in their Resort line, the Cape Hatteras / Outer Banks KOA Resort, is located on a prime piece of real estate on the sunny, sandy shores of the Atlantic Ocean in beautiful Outer Banks, North Carolina. This KOA location checks every possible box for the ultimate family beach vacation destination.
For RVers and campers, this location offers 202 RV sites as well as tent sites. When booking, be sure to read the details on each site. Not every RV site is full hook-up (electric/water/sewer); some sites offer only water and electric. For those not able to get a full hook-up site, this KOA location offers pump-out service for your gray and black tanks, saving you the time and energy of unhooking your RV or camper to go dump. For the non-campers and RVers, there are still plenty of options to stay at this KOA. There are 23 Deluxe Cabins (some offering ocean views) which can sleep four to eight people, and they come with a kitchen stocked with supplies as well as a gas grill. Located in their beautiful front office complex are eight Vacation Rental Hotel Suites which sleep two to four people and are equipped with full baths and kitchenettes. For those looking for less of a hotel experience, this location also offers 33 Rustic Camping Cabins that can sleep four to six people; these are a great choice if there isn’t quite enough sleeping space in your camper for the extended family vacation. These cabins provide air-conditioning and beds only (no bathroom or kitchen). KOA also provides a full linen and towel service for their Deluxe Cabins and Vacation Rental Suites. With all these camping options, this KOA location makes a great choice for family reunions and large family vacations, regardless if everyone is an avid RVer or prefers more creature comforts.
The list of amenities at this resort is extensive; make sure to grab the list of activities available at the front desk when you check in. You’ll have to decide between sunbathing beside the 130,000 gallon pool, hot tub and tiki bar or walking the short distance across the sand dunes to chill by the ocean. For those sitting poolside, be sure to visit the tiki bar and purchase a cold, adult beverage to sip on while you lounge about for the day. Feeling hungry? Stop by Sheila’s Kitchen (open 8:00am to 3:00pm, six days a week) for an expansive menu that is sure to fill your grumbling tummy. Live music and karaoke can be found at the tiki bar on certain nights. For those venturing to the beach, be sure to stop into the store for all your beach essentials before heading out. This store offers it all: snacks, drinks, coolers, ice, flip flops, sun glasses, hats, swimsuits, sunscreen and all the essential camping supplies. Kids can be easily entertained in a large playground and future expansion plans will include a “pocket park” offering ping pong, volleyball, corn hole and horseshoes. Fido is never forgotten at KOA and Kamp K9 will keep your pooch entertained, exercised and happy.
KOA does a great job of pulling campers together with activities for all ages. During the peak season, visitors can join in on pirate water wars, ghost crab hunting, Instant Pot cook-offs, wine tastings, popcorn tastings and tie-dye activities to name a few. On holiday weekends campers can expect “themed” activities like parties, food and parades.
With all that Cape Hatteras / Outer Banks KOA has to offer, how can you be sure that you aren’t missing out on any of the activities and fun events? Upon check-in, providing a cell phone number links you to Zingle – the messaging system for KOA. You’ll receive text updates throughout your stay letting you know about upcoming activities, events, weather and more. It’s the easiest way to get the most out of your stay with KOA.
As your day winds to an end, be sure to head across the street to the pier to watch a breathtaking sunset over the sound. It’s the perfect way to end the day and capture some stunning images to remind you why you come back to this KOA again and again.
